If President Jefferson Davis' first act was to free the slaves and enroll them into the Confederate armies, the whole moral rug would have been pulled out from under President Lincoln, the war would then have been truly and entirely about states' rights and perhaps the outcome would have been a bit different - possibly even a negotiated settlement that might have ammended the Constitution against increasing federal power, saving us from the dark cloud of progressive liberalism. Hmmm....
